Hello beautiful people!
How about this warm weather?! I’ve been LOVING it!! Sunshine and warm temps make my heart happy. We’re also less than two weeks away from the end of the semester! HALLELUJAH! I can’t believe I only have one semester left after this. Scary!!
Okay on to today’s post! I don’t know about you, but I love all the pieces that go into kitchen design. I literally go to IKEA just for fun so I can analyze them and look at all of the endless options. Here’s a picture of one kitchen that I loved at IKEA.
There are six main components to the farmhouse style kitchen:
- Open Shelving
- Butcher block or quartz counter tops
- Farmhouse sink
- Subway tile or bead board back splash
- White with black accents
- Wide open spaces
Let’s get started!
Open shelving: This gives off the perception that the kitchen is more “airy” and has lots of space. It also gives you a reason to show off all your pretty dishes 🙂 Some people don’t like the concept of open shelving because it reduces space that could be better utilized with cabinets. While this may have some truth to it, your whole kitchen doesn’t need to be open shelving. Even two or three open shelves can help transform your kitchen.
Butcher block or quartz counter tops: The butcher block gives your kitchen a more rustic feel whereas the quartz continues to play off of the white theme.
Farmhouse sink: Whether it’s a single or double basin sink, the large basin provides lots of room for doing dishes. It’s sleek look makes the kitchen look very elegant.
Subway tile or bead board back splash: This is a classic look that goes well with a variety of cabinet colors and countertops. Whether you choose the contrast of black grout, or a more subtle grey or white, it is bound to compliment your kitchen!
White with black accents: an easy way to do this is by using black hardware on white cabinets, using a black faucet to contrast with the white farmhouse sink, or using black grout with white subway tile.
Wide open spaces: Have you ever tried cooking in a cramped kitchen? It’s not very fun. Having lots of open space will not only make cooking easier, it will make the kitchen feel very open and airy.
Do you want to design your own kitchen yet? I do! I absolutely cannot wait until I have my own home and I can personalize it the way that fits mine and my family’s needs.
Have a happy Friday y’all!
